Where would I the unremarried spouse of a deceased Veteran be going to apply for a DD 214 copy?

Help. I lost the copy of a DD 214 form , from my deceased husband? He was in the Air Force. Where would I go to get an original copy?

Thanks. I need to renew my military ID card/ thanks.Where would I the unremarried spouse of a deceased Veteran be going to apply for a DD 214 copy?
First of all, I am sorry for your loss.

You should be able to go to http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/militar鈥?/a>

or http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrec鈥?/a> to get a copy of his record. Follow the directions on either website.

Here are the things you will need to include in your request:

The veteran's complete name used while in service

Service number or Social Security Number

Branch of service

Dates of service

Date and place of birth

If you suspect your records may have been involved in the 1973 fire, also include:

Place of discharge

Last unit of assignment

Place of entry into the service, if known.

All requests must be signed and dated by you as the next-of-kin

The purpose or reason for your request, such as applying for veterans benefits, preparing to retire, or researching your personal military history.

Any deadlines related to your request. They will try to get it to you ASAP. Example: for a VA-guaranteed Home Loan and need to provide proof of military service by a specific date.

Any other specific information, documents or records you require from his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) besides your Report of Separation (DD Form 214

It's going to take some time for them to verify that you are his next-of-kin, find his record, %26amp; send it back to you.Where would I the unremarried spouse of a deceased Veteran be going to apply for a DD 214 copy?
You should not need a copy of his DD Form 214. . .your ID is proof enough. Is anyone asking you for it?

If this is your first ID, since your husband passed, then you only need your ID and the death certificate.

If your ID has expired, and you have dropped out of DEERS (this will only happen after several years), then you will need a copy of his DD Form 214, the death certificate and your ID.

www.archives.gov is where you need to go to get a copy. There is a form you need to complete and mail in.
Check with the Clerk of records for your county that your husband FIRST resettled as a civilian to see if he registered his community status there. You can probably get a free copy in a few minutes and it would be notarized.

Next, approach your veterans office for the same county that he FIRST resettled as a civilian and ask for their help. They will get it done for you.

Don't waste your time with congressmen, internet sites, or veterans clubs.

The veterans Office and the County Clerk of Records ARE PAID TO DO THEIR JOB and record that information in the public records about your husband!
Go to any base close by to your home and talk to the Admin center. Or the VA. The VA will help you with ANYTHING you need. If your card is just expired you might be able to just go to the ID card center and renew your card. Your deceased husband should make your card ';INDEF'; for the exp.
contact your congressman. Here;s the link. All you need is a zip code.

Give him as much info as you can.
Try military.com. They've got links to all the information you'd need.

Have a nice night.
Try your local American Legion.
Call the DAV or AMVETS.Either can help you.
use this web site mprstatus@nara.gov it has all the info you need
