Where can I find military spouse scholarships for any college?

My husband will be deployed during the entire school year. Are there any scholarships that tie into his deployment? We're going to have a hard time paying for my school, and need all the help we can get! Thanks!Where can I find military spouse scholarships for any college?
www.va.gov. There is help there. If you need to search elsewhere, they will help you go in the right direction. You can also get their phone number and call. It's a 1-800 number.Where can I find military spouse scholarships for any college?
You can actually ask the people from Hearts Apart. Also, the education center on the base has some great information. They have the information readily available for you along with websites and other forms. The NMFA puts out a scholarship once a year, you should look into it. It is unfortunately closed for this year, but still, keep the information for future reference: http://www.nmfa.org/site/PageServer?page鈥?/a>

Also, the actual schools can provide you with the information. Doesn't hurt to ask.

  • How can a spouse protect his/her spouse from getting blepharitis, which I think is contagious?

Should lysol or a bleach be added to the wash when washing towels used by both? How can a spouse protect his/her spouse from getting blepharitis, which I think is contagious?
It isn't contagious - blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids - usually chronic.

Are you sure you don't mean conjunctivitis - which can be contagious.

Either way - you don't need to add lysol or bleach to the wash - just wash them in soap. Keep hands washed and practice good eye hygenie.

If you think you have conjunctivitis - you can go to your doctor for antibiotic eyedrops.

Is the Uniformed Services Former Spouse's Protection Act fair to military members?

Opinion please I'll give my 2 cents later. Is the Uniformed Services Former Spouse's Protection Act fair to military members?
I honestly think it sucks and they need to do away with it.

EDIT: I think it sucks because one if you decided to marry a soldier you know what you are in for. If you don't I think it is your fault their is vast information on sites to obtain info. Second even though it was hard to finish my schooling etc. I was able to still have my own job/career. Just because your spouse is military doesn't mean you can't find work or go to school.

I was dual active duty Army for 6 years. My husband is about to retire and I'm in the reserves. Is the Uniformed Services Former Spouse's Protection Act fair to military members?
well as a retired Soldier my self I see the good points and the bad points of this law . I was divorced in 2004 after finding out that my ex was unfaithful while i was in Iraq . Lucky for me we where not married 10 years at the time. so she did not qualify however my lawyer was smart enough to have it put in the divorce that she got NOTHING from me in the way of support . ZERO dollars !!

Now with that being said. any spouse that stays with a Soldier for 10 + years and is faithful and loving deserves to be compensated for years of being alone during deployments and other stresses . brought on by the Military .

Also for the post that stated that the state took his retirement pay . this is not possible !! the law is very very clear that in order for your retirement to become '; marital property'; the spouse must be with you for 10 years of active duty service this requirement is not waviable !
I think it's a little outdated. Back when my mom followed my dad around during his military career (15 yrs they were married) and she didn't have another career cause it wasn't an option, that's one thing.

But today when these blood suckers maintain their own careers and don't move with their military mates, it needs to be revised to have a case by case bases.
no but it dosnt matter.. my state awarded my x my pension dispite not meeting the guidelines or law for eligibility

she wasnt married to me long enough to qualify for my pension federally.. the state just ignores that and awards it anyway.

and also you know the bull **** line that the hardest job in the military is the military spouse...

they use you .. then they dump you.. but you have no one to blame but yourself.. you married them.
a big whooping nope...i actually dealt with this in my life..i signed all of it back to him when we divorced...i did give up some things for him to continue with his career..but my thoughts were i didnt earn his retirement i married him long before he went in the military....he earned all of it...he wasnt with his dad before he died because he was in the military...he couldnt go to his grandmothers funeral because he was in the military...he was in korea and the desert a few times...sucked rubber twelve hour shifts for weeks on end at his duty stations...i didnt do any of that..i was for the most part a stay at home mom to our two kids...when the last was old enough i went to work..i was earning my own retirement...and i didnt want his...he didnt even ask i told him i didnt want it..but i have to say the legal office on base..told him if i wouldnt sign it to go after my retirement...i laughed...i wanted to punch that dude in the face...because those few words almost made me not sign it to show him how the wrong thing said makes a situation bad.....but in the end..i did...we later remarried..lol..so so much for that...but yeah..i think alot of times spouses turn the anger of the divorce into im gonna clean his wallet ..and its really unfair to the guy serving...my point of view
no, I do not believe any spouse has the right to take a servicemember's pension. ESPECIALLY if they (the civilian spouse)cheated
it seems very unfair, although I know being a spouse is no easy job, they were not the employee...

How do you thank your spouse for a Xmas present that you never got?

I was a little disappointed there was nothing under the tree for me. I was so excited shopping for her and made sure she had something from Santa. I guess it is time to move on. What would your take be?How do you thank your spouse for a Xmas present that you never got?
Talk to her and ask if she is the present santa left???????How do you thank your spouse for a Xmas present that you never got?
Dear Mr. Pickle, I guess that it depends on what the gift was (wasn't) and the reason for which you did not receive it. You must have been REALLY bad.......(just kidding)

I can see why you would be so hurt. I can't imagine what your wife's excuse would be for why she didn't care enough to get you anything.

    I'd go out and buy myself something really nice, then come home acting all happy and show your wife what you bought and say, ';look honey what I bought for you to give me for Christmas. I know it's late, but it's just what I wanted. Thanks!';

Next Christmas, buy your wife a nice present (keep the receipt). Don't put the present under the tree, find a good hiding place for it. Now on Christmas day, if there isn't a gift from your wife, then don't give your wife the gift you bought her. Return it to the store and use the money to buy yourself something. Be sure to show your wife what you bought and tell her since she doesn't want to exchange presents, you thought you would buy yourself a nice present.

Now if Christmas day comes and you DO find a present under the tree from your wife, then go to your hiding place, get your wife's present and give it to her.
Depends on how financially set you are, if you didn't really have money to spend on Christmas then she made a better financial decision then you.

If she just blatantly didn't by you a present then there is a hidden message in that and it means I don't love you

Also is this your first Christmas together as a couple (considering your married I would assume not) but has she always given you a present before?
I can't imagine not giving my spouse a Christmas gift, unless we had agreed to buy a joint gift, or not to exchange anything. I think you need to move into the honesty zone and just tell your spouse that you hoped they appreciated the gift you purchased and you were a little disappointed at not also receiving something. Stop there and judge where you stand by the reaction.
    ';Honey, I hope you really like what Santa brought for you. I'm sure he spent a long time choosing just the right gift to put under the tree. I know how much it means to you to receive something for Christmas.';

Kinda hurts though, doesn't it? If this slight is all it takes to end your marriage, you didn't have much of a relationship anymore.
My birthday came and went, my husband didn't even remember until the day was almost over. When his birthday came around, I still bought him a gift. He had told me not to, but I had already gotten it.

Ultimately, I believe that you should give a gift because you want to not because you expect a gift in return. However, I understand how you feel having been the one that gives and doesn't receive.

This Christmas my spouse suggested that we did not exchange gifts. So we did not. If this is the first time that your wife did not buy you a gift I'd probably mention it to her to find out if something is up.
Don't let things fester. If you drop it and just move on with your life you will resent her and end up punishing her and not even know it. You should expect anything, but I do see how your feeling got hurt. Talk to her nicely without making her feel bad for not getting you anything. Just let her know how you feel (unappreciated, or unloved, or whatever you felt when there was no gift for you).

Hold hands when you talk it out. It helps keep things calm and loving between you two during thought conversations.
yeah. thats kinda messed up she didnt even get you ONE gift. but is it something you all do? imean, did you guys say something like we'll just get gifts for the kids or somehow agree you wouldnt get each other gifts? i mean, shes your wife right? can you just tell her how you feel? just tell her it sorta bothered you she didnt get you anything. if she gets all defensive, she could be a) pms-ing; b) flip the switch cuz shes embarrassed of the confrontation; c) apologize and say she'll make it up to you. but ';moving on'; cuz you didnt get a christmas present? thats a bit much u think? i mean what are you 5?! just come out with it
Wow I would be totally disappointed, but then I am a very giving person and I would definitely (if I had a spouse) have them on my list.

Sounds like things arent sunny and bright there in more than one aspect.

I'm sorry to hear that and hope this new year will bring you much joy!

    Cinn =)
Move on to what? This is your marriage you're talking about. Have you talked to her about your disappointment? Have you been having communication issues? Talk to her, tell her how you feel, get it out in the open. There's more going here than no Xmas gift..
I can't imagine a women not giving you a Christmas gift.If it's financial there are so many things that don't cost much, even a homemade gift of a scarf, cookies, etc.Tell her how you feel %26amp; then decide what the relationship means to you.
When you say ';it's time to move on';, do you actually mean ';to divorce her because she didn't get you a present';? Please tell me you're joking right now !

Maybe she was busy or didn't have the money ?
awh thats so sad. did you two agree on getting presents for eachother?

or did you not even talk about it and she just decided not to get you anything? its only a gift but i understand why youd be upset.
maybe she didn't have the income this year i think you should just be thankful that you and her were able to be together for christmas there are alot of couples not so lucky.
Should never do something w/ the expectation of getting in return.
Buy yourself a present, wrap it and open it in front of her. Then thank her!
I would have thanked her on Christmas day. My guess is she may no longer be into you or no longer in love. Have you spoken to her about this?

    Very sorry for your troubles
    Yes
you are gonna leave cause you did not get a present? did you talk to her about it

How do i get my spouse to understand about my Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue syndrome?

She seems to think I am super women and I can get all housework done and errands in my condition. I just feel like laying down because of the pain and fatigue. How do i get my spouse to understand about my Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue syndrome?
soem fibromyalgia association is promoting teh clothespin test-have the well partner put clothespins on her fingers and see how tehy tolerate it-

Think the pregnancy simulators that they have for teh non pregnant partner to teach tehmhow it feels-

could do something liek have your partner wear restrictive clothing-weights on arms and legs-set the alarm to go off at midnight-just keep hitting the snooze to bewoken up agian 9 minutes later-get up after only 3 hours of sleep for a week to simulate the fatigue.....How do i get my spouse to understand about my Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue syndrome?
Tell them to be more considerate. Say you need someone who supposrts you. If they can't support you, lose them!
Check out http://www.fibromyalgiasource.com for lots of information about Fibromyalgia including my experience living with it.
Visit my site http://www.fms-help.com - look in the yellow box on the left for many supportive articles and things to share with family, friends, etc. who don't understand FMS/CFIDS.
I have this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fibromyalgia-Dum鈥?/a> and there's a lovely section in it on helping your friends and family understand what you're going through. Unfortunately, due to the fibro fog, I can't for the life of me remember what it said. I'll be back when I can't remember where I put the blasted book.

    Ten mins later...

Okay, I have the book, but there's a whole lot more of it than I remember. Basically it boils down to needing communication to go both ways. That if you listen to her problems when you're able to she'll be less likely to be feeling the frustration and things that cause her to expect more of you.

It also says that if you start politely saying no to people, you'll find that they will accept it far more than you'd expect. Do you do it because she asks you to, because you expect you to, or because she seems to expect you to? And that brings us back to the communication above.

Have you taken her to any Dr's appointments or clinic sessions, or groups or anything? She might not be fully understanding exactly what you're going through. Studies (conducted by people without fibromyalgia but know how real it is) have established that it's like the aches and pains you get with the flu... but ten times the strength.

And finally, do you let her know what you're going through, or do you try to cover it up? If she comes in and asks how you are and you're made up, dressed in nice clothes, smiling and saying you're fine, then she's going to assume that's how you're actually feeling. If you're on the sofa in your jammies, sipping a cup of tea and you tell her you feel like poop she'll get a better idea of what you're going through.

I like to be happy and smily for my chap too, it's only natural. But if you feel like poop, don't be afraid to admit it. When people understand what you're actually going through they don't expect so much of you.

If there's any more help or support I can offer, please feel free to email. I'm in quite a good place with the world's most supportive partner, but I still ache and almost fall asleep on people and spend large amounts of my day cursing my body. Anything I can do to help a fellow sufferer is fine.

    Take care xx
This is one of the topics that those of us with FM and other chronic issues struggle with. Check out The Spoon Theory. It was actually written by someone with Lupus, but easily explains other chronic issues as well. It really helped my spouse! Wishing you the best!

How much money would your spouse make per hour for you to consider becoming a stay at home parent?

For people that would actually want to stay at home with their children. How much money would your spouse make per hour for you to consider becoming a stay at home parent?
Depends on where you live, the cost of living there etc.

Personally, it has little to do with how much an hour my hubby makes - as long as we can afford to live.

To me its a cost-benefit thing. The cost of daycare+work clothes+higher personal care (getting hair done etc)+transportation is sligtly lower than what I would bring home every month. Add that to the fact that you aren't going to be able to help with your kids school work as much etc etc, doesn't make much sense for me to go to work.

Also, there are ways you can make money at home. I do accounting from home extremely casually, just enough to bring in a little extra money. Some people babysit after school for a couple hours for neighbours etc.

It's all about what's important to you. To our family, me being at home available to our kids is the most important thing in the world, even if it means we can only afford one car and only one extra curricular activity per kid instead of 5.How much money would your spouse make per hour for you to consider becoming a stay at home parent?
i say about 18-20 dollars an hour at the least.
At the time with my first daughter, I was making $10/hr and couldn't afford daycare costs, I would only be ahead $300 a month so we sacrificed, moved to a smaller home, went without a car for a while and now it's 6 yrs and two children later and I wouldn't change it for the world. My husband was making $15/hr and we've managed it. For us it wasn't a case of money, it's b/c we wanting it this way.
Cut down on spending so that what ever he makes will be enough. Staying home to raise your own kids is worth every cent!
It all depends on where you live, and cost of living. While some people can make it with a spouse making $10/hour some need $18/hr. My fiance makes $13/hr, works 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week, so he gets alot of overtime in, and we are doing just fine with me staying home full time.
    $25-30 per hour.(big family...lotsa bills...)
I don't think it really matters how much he makes per hour. You need to just make sure your budget can handle it. I think this world would be a much better place if more women stayed at home to raise their children.
Whatever I would need to pay for:

-all the bills, including vet, shoes, clothes and meds,

    -the kids extracurricular activities,

-take-out 1xweek (figure 2x the normal amt you'd pay now- they grow fast),

-1x-2x month night out for adults only- even if its a picnic in the yard after they go to bed.

-holidays and birthdays( plus some for friends bdays-aprox $25/mth/kid)

plus some left over for emergencies.
Twice what he makes now, and thats about $18 or so.

That would cover both our wages

  • Has anyone ever filed innocent spouse on their taxes before?

I am getting divorced and owe taxes from 2006. (We filed an extension and filed the 2006 taxes in late 2007.) The taxes are owed because of his income, not mine. My attorney suggested that I file innocent spouse to remove me from any tax liability. Has anyone ever done this and succeeded?Has anyone ever filed innocent spouse on their taxes before?
all the information you need can be found here:

    http://www.innocentspouserelief.com/

file form 8857 to apply. If you don't qualify for innocent spouse relief you may qualify for equitable relief or separation of liability. If you want, you can request a free consultation and the will let you know if you are likley to qualify.Has anyone ever filed innocent spouse on their taxes before?
Only a small percentage of the requests for Innocent Spouse relief get full or partial relief.

    1. You appear to have been living with him at the time.

    2. You benefited from the tax money not being sent to the government.

    3. You signed the joint return.

You would have to demonstrate that it would be unfair to hold you liable. Not wanting to pay the tax isn't enough. Thinking the IRS should collect it from him isn't enough.
I am doing that right now on income that my ex husband withheld from paying taxes on. Its fairly easy - just go to the IRS website and print out and fill in the innocent spouse paper work. However, you might want to talk with a CPA who can help you do the work if you don't want to. Good luck.
